you thought I didn’t really notice. But I did. I wanted to high-five you. Yesterday I had a pair of brothers in my store. One was maybe between 15-17. He was a wrestler at the local high school. Kind of tall, stocky and handsome. He had a younger brother, who was maybe about 10-12 years old. The…

When you’re a carpenter making a beautiful chest of drawers, you’re not going to use a piece of plywood on the back, even though it faces the wall and nobody will ever see it. You’ll know it’s there, so you’re going to use a beautiful piece of wood on the back. For you to sleep well at night, the aesthetic, the quality, has to be carried all the way through.

I Want To Write More

I want to write more. I want to get better at writing and the only way to do that is to write, write and keep on writing. So I’ve decided to make this Tumblog of mine my own little place in the huge interwebs of blogs to write more about more personal things and just random things in my head. I’d like to talk less about design. All my ramblings about design should go to my other blog. However, I don’t think I’d be inspired to write more if I didn’t like the look and feel of my blog. So I’ve made a lot of changes, used better typography and even made a new logo of my name. Now, I’m happy with it. It matters to me. It matters to me like how I always prefer the feel and smell of a physical book rather than reading off a tablet. Although I’m not a bookworm, there’s something about the feel of the book in my hand and the feel of paper when I turn a page. I own an iPad, but I will never stop buying books not until they stop making them, but I don’t think that’ll happen — at least not in my lifetime.

Frugal vs Cheap

I’ve had this upper ear piercing for about six years already. It took an awful long time (six months!) to heal and during that time, a friend of mine would always cringe upon seeing it as it looked really red - even almost purple. It looked horrible. She’d always say my ear looked like roasted pork. About a month ago, I bought a small, $5.50 stud with a fake diamond on it. I always thought the upper part of my ear was less sensitive to fake jewelry and it never felt itchy anyway. My ears usually start to itch real bad the moment I wear fake jewelry, but for this one, I never felt anything so I figured it’d be okay.

A couple of weeks later, I woke up with a swollen upper ear and it started to hurt really bad later into the day. It was painful and uncomfortable.

It’s now been a little over a week and I’m glad it’s gotten better. There’s still a tiny bit of swelling and pain, but it’s not as bad as it used to be, but gone is my piercing. It closed up. It took six months to heal but only days to make it completely disappear. This is what happens if you think you’re trying to be wise and frugal, but really, you’re just being cheap. I’m not saying that you should spend thousands of dollars on bling or spend $20,000 on a purse (you may be able to afford it but the fact that many people die of hunger every single day and you spend $20,000 on a purse?! WT*), but don’t compromise your health or safety just to save a buck. It’s okay to treat yourself to something you think you deserve. Lesson learned.

Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes, the ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules and they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do. Think different.
